[외교부] 위고 서포터즈 7기 합격 과정 및 발대식 후기 WeGo Supporters 7ᵗʰ Class Selection Process, Orientation

저는 평소에 컨테스트 코리아나 엽서시 문학 공모전 등의 대회 플랫폼을 자주 방문하고 영어 학습 동영상을 자주 보는 편입니다.

I usually visit competition platforms like Contest Korea or Yeopseosi literature contests, and I often watch English learning videos.

그래서 그런지 인스타그램 알고리즘에 이 포스터가 뜬 것 같습니다. 인스타 스크롤 내리다가 '어 이 거 내가 작년에 평택 살 때 했던건데' 하는 생각이 바로 들더라고요.

Maybe that’s why this poster showed up in my Instagram algorithm. While scrolling, I immediately thought, “Oh, I did something like this when I lived in Pyeongtaek last year.”

제가 작년에 평택 PIEFluencer라는 대외활동을 했었는데 미군 및 미군 가족들이랑 팀을 이뤄서 미션을 수행한다는 점이 비슷하고 저는 군인 생활을 오래 했기 때문에 이 분야에 자신이 있어서 시도해보지 않은 것을 후회하지 않기 위해 지원을 했습니다. 😊

Last year, I participated in an extracurricular activity called Pyeongtaek PIEFluencer, and it was similar to the WeGo Supporters in that we formed teams with U.S. soldiers and their families to complete missions. Since I’ve had a long military career and feel confident in this field, I applied so that I wouldn’t regret not trying. 😊

위고 서포터즈가 어떤 서포터즈인지 소개해드릴게요 :)

Let me introduce what the WeGo Supporters program is about :)

위고 서포터즈 모집 목적 : 한미동맹과 주한미군에 대해 긍정적 인식을 심어주고, 그 중요성을 알리는 역할입니다.

Purpose of recruiting WeGo Supporters: To promote a positive perception of the ROK-U.S. Alliance and U.S. Forces Korea, and to inform people of their importance.

위고 서포터즈 활동 내용

- 온라인 컨텐츠 제작(카드뉴스, 영상 등)

- 오프라인 활동 참여(평택 캠프 험프리스 방문, 하우스 워밍 등)

WeGo Supporters activities:

Creating online content (card news, videos, etc.)

Participating in offline activities (visiting Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, attending housewarming events, etc.)

서류 제출을 어떻게 했는지 알려드리겠습니다.

I’ll explain how I submitted my application.

가장 먼저 지원서 첫 장입니다.

This is the first page of the application.

​

설명이 필요한 부분들 말씀드리겠습니다.

I will explain some parts that need clarification.

​

영어활용능력은 이 서포터즈 활동이 미국인들과 함께 하는 미션들이 많아서 필요로 합니다.

English proficiency is required because many of the missions involve working with Americans.

​

SNS 계정의 경우는 서포터즈 활동에 있어서 조회수가 많아야 목적을 달성 할 수 있기 때문에 많은 친구를 보유하는 것이 좋습니다.

For SNS accounts, having many followers is beneficial because achieving high views is important for fulfilling the Supporter role.

​

편집 프로그램 활용 능력의 경우 작년에 다른 대외활동을 하며 Edits 라는 앱을 이용해서 동영상을 편집 해본 경험이 있어서 할 수 있다고 적었습니다. 아래에 있는 숏폼 제작 경험이 그 것입니다.

As for editing program skills, I wrote that I have them because I had experience editing videos using an app called Edits during another extracurricular activity last year. The short-form content production experience listed below refers to that.

지원서에는 총 4개의 문항에 답변해야 합니다.

There are a total of four questions in the application.

​

첫번째 문항은 기본 중의 기본인 자기소개였어요. 👍

The first question was the most basic one: self-introduction. 👍

​

저는 성실함을 강조하기 위해 군대에서 성적 우수상을 받은 내용과 유사 대외활동들에서 우수 활동자로 선택되었던 점을 썼습니다.

To emphasize diligence, I wrote about receiving an academic excellence award in the military and being selected as an outstanding participant in similar extracurricular activities.

​

그리고 성격의 단점으로는 할 일을 좀 미루지만 극복하기 위해 최선을 다 하고 있다고 썼습니다.

For my weakness, I mentioned that I tend to procrastinate a bit, but I am doing my best to overcome it.

​

팁을 드리자면, 방향성 없이 서술하면 안되고 이러한 이유 때문에 나를 뽑아야 된다고 활동과 연계해서 쓰는 것이 중요합니다.

As a tip, you shouldn’t write aimlessly—you need to connect your experiences to the role and explain why you should be selected.

​

두번째 문항은 지원계기 및 이루고 싶은 목표

The second question was about motivation for applying and goals.

​

가장 먼저 저의 절박함을 강조하기 위해 기회가 얼마 없어서 꼭 되야한다고 서술했습니다.

First, I emphasized my urgency by explaining that there are not many opportunities left for me and that I really need to be selected.

​

저는 올 해 생일이 지나면 34살입니다. 이 서포터즈 지원 가능 연령은 35살입니다.

After my birthday this year, I will be 34, and the maximum eligible age for this Supporters program is 35.

​

지원 계기에 대해서는 제가 군 복무 기간에 미군 부대에 근무했던 이력을 언급하며 긴 군 경력을 바탕으로 국민들께 주한미군이 필요한 이유에 대해 설득 할 수 있다고 썼습니다.

For my motivation, I mentioned my experience working at a U.S. military base during my service and stated that, based on my long military career, I could persuade the public about the necessity of U.S. Forces Korea.

​

이루고 싶은 목표는 지원 계기랑 비슷한데, 미군의 군사적인 가치에 대해 구체적으로 적었습니다.

인터넷 기사나 유튜브를 보면 전문가님들이 잘 서술해놓은 것이 있는데 평소에 쌓아둔 지식이 많아서 굳이 안 찾아봐도 술술 쓸 수 있었습니다.🫡

My goals were similar to my motivation, but I wrote more specifically about the military value of U.S. Forces Korea.

You can find well-written explanations by experts in online articles or YouTube, but since I had accumulated knowledge, I could write smoothly without needing to look things up. 🫡

​

세번째 질문에서는 타 서포터즈 활동이나 대외활동에서 우수한 성과를 낸 경험을 500자 이내로 설명해야 했어요.

The third question asked me to describe, within 500 characters, an experience where I achieved outstanding results in other supporters or extracurricular activities.

​

대학생 때 사랑의 장기기증 대학생 홍보대사 SAVE9에서 우수 홍보대사로 선정되었던 경험 및 공군 검찰단 장병 기자단에서 우수 기자로 선정되었던 내용을 썼습니다. 😆

I wrote about being selected as an outstanding ambassador in SAVE9, a university student ambassador group for organ donation, and being selected as an outstanding reporter in the Air Force Prosecutor’s Office soldier journalist group. 😆

​

마지막으로는 내가 만들고 싶은 콘텐츠 아이디어를 500자 이내로 풀어내야 했어요.

Finally, I had to describe, within 500 characters, a content idea I wanted to create.

​

서포터즈 활동은 곧 광고이고, 광고의 요점은 쉬워야 한다는 것이기 때문에 생성형 AI를 활용하여 아이들도 이해 할 수 있을 정도로 쉬운 애니매이션을 만들어보고 싶다고 썼습니다. (●'◡'●)

Since supporter activities are essentially advertising, and the key to advertising is simplicity, I wrote that I wanted to use generative AI to create easy-to-understand animations that even children could understand. (●'◡'●)

그리고 포트폴리오가 있다면 내면 좋습니다.

And it's good to submit a portfolio if you have one.

​

포트폴리오 하면 원래 아래와 같은 화려한 디자인을 생각해서 이렇게 만들어보려고 했는데요.

When I think of a portfolio, I initially imagine a flashy design like the one below, so I tried to create something like that.

​

만드려고 보니 미세하게 그림 크기도 조절해야 하고, 복잡해서 자기소개서에 쓴 내용들을 입증하는 사진 위주로 심플하게 채우자고 다짐해서 아래와 같이 간단하게 만들었습니다.😂

But as I started making it, I realized I had to adjust image sizes and deal with complex details. So I decided to keep it simple and focus on photos that prove the content I wrote in my self-introduction, as shown below. 😂

포트폴리오는 꾸미는 것도 중요하지만 내용 전달이 훨씬 더 중요하니깐요.

While design is important, delivering the content clearly is much more important.

​

중요한 것에 시간을 더 투자한 것이 잘 작용한 것 같아 좋았습니다.

I’m glad that spending more time on the important aspects worked well.

​

제가 직접 만들기 전에 AI 젠스파크를 이용해서 초본을 만들고 수정을 하려고 했는데요.

Before making it myself, I tried to create a draft using the AI tool “Genspark” and then edit it.

​

이 거는 유료고 포트폴리오 만드는 작업은 챗GPT, Gemini 같은 무료 AI들은 안해주더라고요.

However, that tool is paid, and free AIs like ChatGPT or Gemini don’t create portfolios like this.

​

1차 합격을 했다는 문자를 받았어요 🥳🥳

I received a message saying I passed the first round 🥳🥳

​

그리고 바로 면접 준비에 들어갔어요.

And I immediately started preparing for the interview.

​

위고 서포터즈 합격 후기를 구글에 검색하니까 정말 많더라고요.

When I searched Google for WeGo Supporters acceptance reviews, there were so many.

​

그래서 저도 다른 분들에게 도움이 될 수 있지 않을까 해서 이렇게 쓰고 있습니다.

So I decided to write this as well, hoping it could help others.

​

자기소개는 면접의 기본이라 준비했고, 합격 후기에 있는 면접 질문들은 모두 준비했습니다. 공부를 할 때도 기출문제가 풀이가 가장 중요하니깐요.

Since self-introduction is the basics of interviews, I prepared it as well as all the interview questions found in acceptance reviews. Just like studying, past questions are the most important.

이 분 유튜브 동영상이 많이 도움이 됐습니다.

This person’s YouTube videos helped me a lot.

​

특히 '같이 일하기 어려운 동료가 생겼을 때 어떻게 대처하실건가요? 묻는 질문이 실제로 제가 면접 볼 때 면접관님이 물어보셨습니다. 그래서 이형님이 경험을 위주로 얘기하라고 하셔서 잘 답변 했습니다.

In particular, the question “How would you deal with a difficult coworker?” was actually asked during my interview. I answered well by focusing on my experience, as advised in the video.

면접은 면접관 세 분(한 분은 영어 면접을 위한 외국인)과 지원자 4명(모두 한국인)이었습니다.

The interview consisted of three interviewers (one foreigner for the English interview) and four applicants (all Koreans).

​

면접 순서는 긴장을 풀기 위해 자기소개 및 지원동기 발표, 한미 동맹에 대한 생각, 참가를 잘 할 여건이 되는지 물어보셨습니다.

The interview process included a self-introduction and motivation presentation to ease tension, questions about views on the ROK-U.S. Alliance, and whether we had the conditions to participate actively.

면접 순서는 제가 4명 중 마지막이었는데요. 앞에 분들 자기 소개 하는 거 보고 다 서울 소재 대학생들이었다는 점이 인상깊었습니다.

I was the last among the four applicants, and I was impressed that the others were all university students from Seoul.

​

그 후에는 생성형 AI를 활용해 컨텐츠를 만들어 본 경험이 있는지 물어보셨습니다. 한 남자 지원자 분이 AI를 활용해서 유튜브 쇼츠를 만들었고 본인이 제작한 콘텐츠 중 역대 최대 조회수를 기록했다고 한 점이 무척 인상 깊었습니다.

After that, they asked whether we had experience creating content using generative AI. One male applicant mentioned he created YouTube Shorts using AI and achieved the highest views ever on his channel, which was very impressive.

​

이 질문 후에 다른 팀원들과 갈등이 생기면 어떻게 대처 할 거냐고 물어보셨습니다. 저는 작년에 이 활동과 비슷한 활동을 하며 실제로 그런 일들이 있었고, 최대한 갈등 없는 조원들끼리 해보다가 미션 완수가 불가능 할 것 같으면 매니저님께 말씀드리겠다고 했습니다.

Then they asked how I would handle conflicts with team members. I said that I had similar experiences last year and would try to resolve them within the team, but if completing the mission seemed impossible, I would report it to the manager.

그 후 질문이 대망의 영어 면접이었는데요.😣

Then came the long-awaited English interview. 😣

​

면접관님이 이제부터 영어 면접을 시작하겠습니다 라고 말씀하시고 바로 옆에 계시는 미국인 면접관님이 영어로 빠르게 말씀하십니다.

The interviewer said they would start the English interview, and the American interviewer next to them immediately began speaking quickly in English.

​

저는 모든 단어를 다 알아듣지는 못했고 '외국인 친구가 맛있는 식당을 데려가달라고 하면 어떻게 말하겠느냐' 정도로 이해했습니다.

I couldn’t understand every word, but I understood it as something like, “What would you say if a foreign friend asked you to take them to a good restaurant?”

​

오픽과 달랐던 점은, 오픽은 컴퓨터가 채점하기 때문에 동문서답이라도 막힘 없이 술술 얘기만 하면 IH가 나오지만 면접은 그렇게 하면 안되기 때문에 긴장이 목구멍 바깥으로 솟아 오를 것 같더라고요.

Unlike the OPIC test, where you can still get a good score by speaking fluently even if off-topic, interviews don’t work that way, so I felt extremely nervous.

저는 막힘없게 얘기한 것으로 기억합니다.

매일 영어 일기 A4 용지 한 장 분량 쓰는 공부를 한 것이 도움이 많이 된 것 같습니다.

제가 얘기하는 동안 면접관님들이 고개를 끄덕끄덕 해주시는 것을 보면서 자신감을 느끼면서 했습니다.✌️

I couldn’t remember the third applicant well because I was busy preparing my own answer in my head.

I believe I answered without hesitation. Writing a full page English diary every day helped a lot.

While I was speaking, the interviewers nodded, which gave me confidence. ✌️

그리고 미군 부대 근무 할 때 체육관에서 미군 친구들이 너 기구 다 썼냐를 'Are you done?' 이라고 했던 것이 기억나서 답변 끝나고 'I am done.'이라고 말했더니 영어 면접관님이 씩 웃으시는 것을 봤습니다. 😊

I also remembered that when I worked at a U.S. base, American friends at the gym would say “Are you done?” so after finishing my answer, I said “I am done,” which made the English interviewer smile. 😊

제 답변은 친구랑 서울에 같이 있다는 상황을 가정해서 명동이나 홍대에 맛있는 가게들이 많고 특히 선호하는 메뉴가 있니? 예를 들면 돈까스집? 그 거라면 내가 아는 유명 프랜차이즈 긴자료코가 있다.라고 대화하듯이 했습니다.

In my answer, I imagined being in Seoul with a friend and said there are many good restaurants in Myeongdong or Hongdae, and asked what kind of food they prefer—like pork cutlet—and mentioned a famous franchise called Ginjaryoko that I know.

상상의 나래를 펼쳐서 어떤 말을 할 지 빨리 세팅하는 순발력이 중요한 질문이었던 것 같습니다.

It seemed like a question that required quick thinking and imagination.

그 결과 최종합격했습니다!!😍😍😍

As a result, I passed the final selection!! 😍😍😍

​

바로 참석을 위해 연차를 썼습니다.

I immediately took a day off to attend.

발대식은 광화문역 바로 옆에 있는 포시즌스 호텔에서 2026년 4월 10일에 열렸습니다.

The orientation ceremony was held on April 10, 2026, at the Four Seasons Hotel next to Gwanghwamun Station.

먼저, 외교부 북미국장님의 환영사로 시작했습니다.

It started with a welcoming speech by the Director-General of North American Affairs.

​

환영사중에 가장 기억에 남았던 점은 이번 서포터즈 경쟁률이 가장 치열했고, '외무고시도 이 정도는 아닐 것 같은데' 라고 말씀하신 것입니다.

What stood out most was that this year’s competition rate was the highest ever, and he joked that “even the foreign service exam might not be this competitive.”

​

환영사가 끝나고 서포터별로 자기소개 하는 시간을 가졌습니다.

After the speech, each Supporter introduced themselves.

​

남자 분들은 대부분 카투사 출신이고 친척 중에 주한미군이신 분도 있었습니다.

Most of the male participants were former KATUSA members, and some had relatives who served in U.S. Forces Korea in the past.

​

학과는 정치외교학과가 많았습니다. 한국인은 17명, 미국인은 3명입니다.

Many majored in political diplomacy. There were 17 Koreans and 3 Americans.

​

이어서 점심 식사를 했습니다.😋🐷🐷

Then we had lunch. 😋🐷🐷

오오오.. 저는 오늘 살면서 가장 많이, 배불리 먹은 날이었습니다.🐷

Wow… it was the most I’ve ever eaten in my life. 🐷

​

서민이라 앞으로도 이런 호텔 정식은 이런 기회가 아니면 못 먹을 것 같습니다.

As an ordinary person, I probably won’t get to eat such a hotel meal again without an opportunity like this.

​

그래서 배가 더 이상 받지말라고 빌었지만 무시하고 다 비워버렸죠. (*/ω＼*)

Even though I felt full, I ignored it and finished everything. (*/ω＼*)

그리고 임명장과 서포터즈 신분증, 그리고 웰컴키트를 받았습니다.

Then we received our appointment certificates, Supporter IDs, and welcome kits.

웰컴키트는 짐벌 셀카봉이었습니다.👍

The welcome kit included a gimbal selfie stick. 👍

 

전장에 나가는 전사들에게 글라디우스를 지급하는 듯 비장한 기분이 드네요 (^///^)

It felt like being given a gladius before going into battle. (^///^)

그리고 5기, 6기 우수 서포터즈 선배님들과의 소통 시간도 가졌습니다.

We also had a session to communicate with outstanding Supporters from previous generations.

 

발대식을 금요일에 했는데 토요일에 이미 인터넷 기사가 올라왔더라고요.

The orientation was on Friday, and by Saturday, news articles were already published online.

​

마지막으로 드리고 싶은 말씀은 '그냥 해보는 것이 중요하다.' 라는 것입니다.

Finally, what I want to say is: “Just try it.”

​

제가 위고 서포터즈에 합격 할 수 있었던 이유도 과거에 다양한 대외 활동을 했고 성과를 냈다는 것입니다.

The reason I was able to pass the WeGo Supporters selection is that I had participated in various extracurricular activities and achieved positive results.

​

카드뉴스를 만들고 Edits 앱을 활용해서 동영상을 만드는 기술을 대외활동 하면서 배웠었거든요.

I learned how to create card news and edit videos using the Edits app through those activities.

​

그래서 오늘 이런 성과를 또 만든 것 같습니다.

That’s why I was able to achieve this result today.
